Airport Style
There are many factors when shopping for functional travel clothes and patience is
important because they are elusive. Balancing style and purpose are tricky so take a
cue from effortless-looking celebrity travel outfits when beginning your search. Overall,
there’s one universal rule: don’t wear pajama pants and slippers; though, a suit isn’t
required.
If you travel frequently, purchase a dedicated outfit based on the fabric. Choose
garments that stretch and breathe while maintaining their shape because you need to
able to lift your bag over your head or run in a terminal. Athleisure or golf clothing are a
good place to start because they stretch, are wicking, and have coordinating pieces.
Anatomie and Athleta have chic travel wear, but they are pricey, so wait for a sale.
When it comes to shoes, finding ones that provide both comfort and functionality are the
driver. I recently purchased Jimmy Choo Verona knit trainers with a black elastic upper.
They are comfortable with a little bling, and they will forever be the base of my travel
outfit.
In terms of color, stay away from lighter colors since you don’t want spills to show.
Consider dressing in one or two darker colors, which elevates your look, while making it
easier to coordinate. In lieu of black, try navy, or deep purple. Then, accent your outfit
with a scarf that doubles as a wrap. Consider as large and thick a cashmere wrap you
can afford; you’ll not regret it.
Since travel has become a crowded, uncomfortable, shuttling to your destination, it also
demands more of your clothes. With a bit of outfit planning, you don’t have to arrive
looking disheveled and you can still be comfortable.
Tammy’s truism: Be patient when shopping for your travel outfit, pieces are harder to
find than you think.
