Fall Staples & Fabrics
Beautiful fall fabrics are out, and they scream LUXURY, but don’t have to break the
bank. Fall’s predominant colors are old school neutrals: camel, off-white and black.
The beauty of these basics is that they’re easily incorporated into your wardrobe.
The challenge, however, is to not end up looking drab or washed out while wearing
these colors, so first choose a hue appropriate for your undertone. To add flair, I
recommend adding texture to your outfit with accent pieces that draw attention to your
best features. A brightly colored scarf or collared print top are great options. I also love
the satin tops in rich colors, their finish is an ideal counterbalance to fall’s suede,
leather, or bulky knits.
Generally, I’ve always erred on the side of waxed jeans, figuring that leather was still a
bridge too far, but no longer! I’m currently loving the many faux and not-so-faux leather
tops and pants and there are endless online options. For example, Amazon has faux
leather leggings to go with your longer open cardigan sweaters, and of course, there are
more expensive leather choices.
If you’re unsure about the trend, I’d recommend finding an inexpensive faux leather 5
pocket pant (mimicking your jeans) to see if you wear them before spending too much.
I’d also add faux sueded items to the list for fall’s must haves.
One of the best pieces I’ve purchased for fall is a sweater blazer/”jardigan”. What I love
about it is that it provides polish to any jean and feels like a sweater so it’s not confining.
Just add them to a pair of patent loafers and you’re all set.
Tammy’s Truism: Faux options have a huge benefit—easier to clean, eliminating the
biggest stressor of their natural counterparts.
