Current Jean Trends

As the spring begins, so does the transition for lighter weight jeans. There are different

styles and types to match every fit and figure when considering the current “gotta-

haves”.

One of this season’s biggest trend, regardless of color, length, or type of jean is the raw-

edged hem. This hem, or lack thereof, appears on jackets, skirts, shorts, or jeans.

When investing in such a trendy finish, make sure the raw edge will last beyond one

season of washing and that the edging is not too long to reduce snags.

Another seasonal trend is the wide-legged jean. Given we’re accustomed to skinny

jeans, this updated style feels strange at first when trying them on, like you’re wearing

someone else’s. One key to pulling off this trend is to make sure the wide-legged style

is sized appropriately for your body.

If you’re short, like me at 5”2’, and order a regular sized jean, not only is it too long, but

the relative amount of fabric of the wide leg itself is made for a regular height person.

Therefore, if I put that jean on, it looks like I’m wearing someone else’s jeans—because

I am.

Of course, jeans are notoriously difficult to find due to size inconsistencies, cut and

content of the fabric. Be patient when trying on wide-legged jeans, as you will need to

try on several pairs to find those that fit your frame, regardless of your height.

Finally, if you purchase a wide-leg style that’s not overly dramatic, you can continue to

wear it even after the trend has passed.

Tammy’s Truism: Jeans are more acceptable than ever, just make sure the details for any trend are appropriately sized, be it wide-legged or raw hem, so that it doesn’t overwhelm your entire look.
