Men’s Winter Wear
When it comes to winter menswear, there are subtleties in any garment which can dress
up or dress down an outfit. Regardless, there are a few items all men should have in
their wardrobe.
First is the coat, one casual and one dressier. The casual choice is a parka/down puffer
coat—a darker one is dressier and easier to keep clean. Additionally, you need to have
a dress/car coat, it adds polish to your business casual wardrobe of jeans when you’re
traveling, or office bound. Currently, the traditional trench seems like overkill, but
always appropriate.
For tops, if sweaters aren’t your thing, there are fantastic alternatives like the quarter zip
that provides a dressier approach to fleece or sweater material, and generally has a
roomier feel. Another option is a sweater jacket, which comes in materials from
cashmere to heavy fleece. For a dressier look, stick to a clean front, zip up, no collar
option—you can find them anywhere from Land’s End to Neiman Marcus.
Athleisure fabrics in men’s pants are game changers, making them look and feel
dressier while forgiving and wrinkle free. With my husband’s travel capsule, I found
Johnnie-O’s one of the best pair of khakis out there. To step up your look a bit, choose
a darker color and a flat front, as they add bit of polish. So too for jeans.
When it comes to men’s winter clothing, it’s all about fabric, function, and finishing.
Given new fabrics, you can choose clothing that’s more versatile and not too bulky.
Examine the weight, choosing items that fit your environment and use.
Tammy’s Truism: Finishing details matter, like clean zippers and flat fronts, they look
dressier; step up your look just by simply choosing a darker color.
