Planning Party Outfits

It’s party season and with it comes the question of what to wear—the answer’s easier than you think.

Start by considering whether you’re the host or the guest. If you’re the host, you need to plan your outfit

around what you’re doing during the event. Are you having the party catered or are you cooking a sit-

down dinner for 12?

If you’re cooking, you obviously get dressed right before your guests arrive. Additionally, I recommend

wearing a dark color to hide any potential spills, so they aren’t visible during the party. A low heel or flat

is a good idea to make life a bit easier to manage while cooking and running to answer the door.

Wear something that’s comfortable and not too complicated, particularly if you’re bending and lifting trays

because you don’t want a flouncy sleeve going through the gravy. Consider eating ahead so while you’re

busy entertaining, you are sure to eat. When sitting down with your guests, avoid eating anything too

messy due to the potential for a spill when distracted talking.

My favorite holiday choice when I’m a guest is a red satin Stuart Weitzman pump with red rhinestone

heels. Of course, I do have to be mindful of how much moisture there is on the ground when wearing

them. Suede and velvet are also popular shoe choices during this season, but for the rainy climes or

snow, you’re flirting with danger.

Dress a black sheath or slacks up by simply adding something sequined—either a headband, shoes, or a

sparkly necklace/earrings. By donning a chiffon top or shrug, you’ve immediately stepped up what would

otherwise be a plain black outfit.

Tammy’s Truism: Something comfortable doesn’t mean it can’t look festive; when outfit shopping, don’t

get distracted by something cute that’s unworkable.
