Pulling Together An Outfit

We all face this challenge at one time or another—how to put together an outfit from

what we have in hanging our closet. With a few simple tricks to guide you, you’ll be

able to navigate your wardrobe more effectively.

One easy way to pull together an outfit is wearing two same color items, be it clothing

and/or an accessory. Second, if you have one bulky item, pair it with a more fitted item.

For example, if you have on a boxy sweater, pair it with skinny jeans or a fitted skirt.

Another creative way to pull together an outfit is to pick one garment that’s the highlight

and build everything else around it that is more subdued. For example, pair a printed

pant with a solid color silky top within the same color family, like a black and grey striped

pant with a black silk top.

One of my favorite outfit building tricks is to make accessories the standout and

coordinate them with each other—like a statement necklace and a belt with the same

color buckle. This way your garments are the supporting cast.

Finally, one of the quickest ways to pull together an outfit is using a blazer and a belt.

Together, they create a cohesive look regardless of what else you pair with them.

Whatever approach you choose, challenge yourself to try new combinations, you may

be surprised what you find.

Tammy’s Truism: Keep one outfit you love and keep it as your “go to” when you’re running short on time—save a pic of it on your phone. Once you have this, you can add layers or accessories to take it through all seasons.
