Summer Wardrobe Closet Evaluation

With the beginning of August, we want to squeeze the most out of our remaining warm days. So too, this is the time to evaluate whether you squeezed the most out of your summer wardrobe’s functionality and style.

August is the best time to critically examine your summer wardrobe because you know what you wore and how often; do so while you’re still wearing it daily. Easier to remember now, than in seven or eight months. Did you wear some items so much you need to replace them or would love it in a different color?

Pull everything from your warm weather wardrobe you didn’t wear this season or last. You don’t have to part with them just yet, so don’t panic. Ask yourself why they didn’t work:

- Was it an impulse purchase, or you loved it in the store, but never wore it

because it’s out of your comfort zone?

- Do you have similar, multiple purchases or are all the unworn items different?

This exercise is important because if you’re repeating mistakes, it starts your list of “rules” on items not to buy again, despite your like for it. Next, collect everything you’ve loved but didn’t stand up to the job, this is your list of repairs or replacements.

Then determine the remaining wardrobe gaps. I’m thinking about purchases you deferred but, after the season, you know now it’s a need. Color cardigans, canvas sneakers, white jeans or versatile shells and tanks are a few examples.

This summer, the mantra was “Coastal Grandma”, or a Hamptons style of functional but beautiful fabrics which flow effortlessly. Though the moniker may be new, the style is a mix of timeless classics.

Regardless of next summer’s trends, you now know what items you will wear repeatedly—AND this the time to shop for them. There are deals to be had with

seasonal closeouts and you may snatch up those great items for a lot less.

Tammy’s Truism: Place your unworn items in a bag in a closet for 3 months, if you

don’t open the bag during that time, just drop if off for donation, you didn’t miss it.
