Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas

Dressing for Thanksgiving is easier than ever, the hardest part is the innumerable

choices since athleisure joined the scene. Overall, however, Thanksgiving is about

finding the right balance between comfort and easy elegance.

To whittle down the universe, start with the venue of whether you’re at home, at a

restaurant, or a dinner guest. One of the quickest ways to pull such a look together,

once location’s established, is by starting with your shoes—let them inform your entire

outfit.

Will you be standing and cooking, or going out for Thanksgiving dinner this year?

Maybe take advantage of the cooler weather to pull out a pair of boots that aren’t often

worn if you’re headed out. If you’ve chosen a boot that slouches, make sure to only

wear one other similar looking item as you can quickly end up in the “disheveled” camp.

Consider a ballet flat or crystal embellished sneaker if you know you’ll be standing a lot.

Next, by picking a top or pant of textured fabric, your outfit oozes coziness without

having to dress in too many layers. Another option is to incorporate suede into your

outfit. Balancing out the weight and outline of garments to other elements in your look

is important as too much of a single type is usually too much.

Finally, pull your outfit together using accessories. Be mindful of the drape and dangle

of sleeves, scarves, or bracelets so they aren’t inadvertently sacrificed to the stain gods

during the meal.

Tammy’s Truism: I always recommend clients limit the number of colors in an outfit to

three—more than that and it steals away the congruence.
