The Minimalist Look

The new catchphrase in fashion is “stealth wealth”, though new terminology, much of the look derives from the minimalist style, which has been around for many years.   Stealth wealth is all about luxurious fabrics that are subtle but unmistakable in quality.

A minimalist look too is made up of clean lines and silhouettes.  Mastering this style means you must be patient when shopping to get around the latest trends.  Here you want to find garments that aren’t fussy or that have too much detailing, and certainly nothing with too much finishing—for example, ripped jeans.

One easy way to create a minimalist look is by dressing monochromatically, whereby you’re using color to streamline your appearance.  Also, the minimalist look doesn’t include the color of the season, like Barbie pink, but instead relies heavily on traditional neutrals and softer hues.

Another means to create a minimalist look is by using refined, smaller prints, which create subtlety and congruence, as opposed to a big, bold print.  Too, you can use the texture of the fabric to create the look, making sure you’re using the same texture on the top and bottom.

When it comes to accessories, the same rules apply:  choose items without a lot of detail to them, but instead focus on quality finishing, like patents; solid hardware is a must.  Plain-fronted shoes and handbags are key to creating a minimalist look.  Also, the jewelry shouldn’t be too ornate but, used properly, it can add color to your minimalist look as long as it’s also refined.

Tammy’s Truism:  The true benefit of the minimalist look is that it establishes a more functional wardrobe with classic, clean lines, something which never goes out of style.
