Timeless Statement Pieces
There are countless items making up what I consider timeless statement pieces. In identifying such a piece, the phrase that comes to mind is you know it when you see it. Quite literally. You recognize these pieces instantly. However, your definition of what’s a statement piece depends on your own style.
I was recently watching Netflix’s Inventing Anna and in one episode Anna’s wearing a Christian Dior Trotter logo scarf. The scarf was barely visible above her collar but in a split second I recognized it and have been obsessing about it ever since. That’s a timeless statement piece.
These items are not only recognizable but they are ALWAYS in style. They are capable of taking your wardrobe up a notch and providing legitimacy to your entire outfit, even if it’s a knit dress you bought at H&M for under $50.
It used to be that if you didn’t have a stylish grandmother leave you such an item, you’d have to shell out the money to purchase your own. With the advent of the Real Real and high-end consignment shops, now you can purchase a gently used statement piece for much less.
As for me, my list of timeless statement pieces include: Chanel ballet flats, Burberry trench coat, Hermes scarf, a Rolex watch, Gucci bit loafers, a Louis Vuitton bag, or black Louboutin heels. Not all statement pieces have to be a recognizable brand, nor do they need to be expensive. They can be items like a simple strand of pearls, the little black dress, Converse sneakers, tortoise shell sunglasses, a crisp white shirt or a boucle jacket.
Suffice it to say, the list goes on and on and can include classic or sporty designers, or even edgier ones like Doc Martins. Regardless, all statement pieces have one thing in common: they all say NOTICE ME without ever saying a word.
Tammy’s Truism: When buying a statement piece, assess your wardrobe to determine what kind of item you will wear the most to make it worthwhile.
