Amazon Clothing Basics
We all know you can buy anything on Amazon, what most don’t know is that it’s now the
world’s largest fashion retailer with more than 50 in-house brands. As a fashion
consultant and stylist, I was skeptical about the quality of Amazon-sold clothes (I’m not
compensated by Amazon or any of its brands).
Prior to the pandemic, I had never bought clothes on Amazon, but while other retailers
had low or non-existent inventory, Amazon seemed flush with options. Because it’s
Amazon, they have one of the most developed search engines when it comes to
shopping—but in particular, when it comes to clothing. Be it color, cut, material, or cost,
I can search by garment characteristics, critical when shopping for clients.
They also carry brands labeled as “premier”, which are well-recognized, high-quality
brands, like Ralph Lauren’s Purple Label or lesser-known Altuzarra and have recently
launched a “Luxury Brand” clothing section on their site. As a result of all the above, I
now include Amazon when starting any client shop requiring staples, or if I’m searching
for a very specific piece.
One of the best values is the “Amazon Essentials” brand which I love when shopping for
myself or clients, specifically their t-shirts. The makeup of the fabric, durability and
price is on par with retailers like J Crew, Target, or Macy’s but with greater choices than
the others combined.
Finally, shopping on Amazon for clothing has some great advantages—free shipping,
short delivery times, inventory, and refunds usually occur the same day that you drop off
your return at the shipper. All things which we know and love as Prime members.
Tammy’s Truism: Not all of Amazon’s retailers are alike, investigate return policies
and deadlines, many of which are 30 days, and don’t pay for international shipping.
