Fall Transition Challenge

Most of us lament the end of summer and the transition into the cooler weather of

fall—count me in that category. Whenever I’m less than excited about something, like

the change of season, I create a challenge to help me focus.

This fall I’m focused on elevating one of my favorite styles, classic, and adding some

refinement to it while finding something that updates it to take up my fashion game.

Where to begin??

First, recall my recent blog about creating a subset of your wardrobe that is your

favorite, best fitting, and flattering pieces. Take one of those pieces, and work on

perfecting an outfit built around this piece—I used Pinterest for my inspiration.

I chose three outfits which were classic in style, but what jumped out at me once I

began dissecting the looks was that two of the three had a common element, a stacked

statement pearl necklaces with a slim fitting pant. Another look I chose was a black and

white fitted cardigan, again a pearl necklace appeared.

Next, I scoured my closet for pearl necklaces, both costume and real, different styles of

which I’ve collected over the years and began mixing and matching what I had to

recreate the look. Then I pieced together each outfit from head to toe, resulting in a

short list of items I was missing to complete each look.

What I learned from this exercise is that many times we don’t see the promise of what

we have hanging in our closet because we look at our wardrobe the same way every

time—something I am guilty of too. By changing your perspective, or transitioning it,

you’re not wearing the same shirt with the same pant or sweater every time.
