Fall Trends

One trend this fall, which I contend is more timeless than “trendy”, is the enhanced

basic. Basics are any garment used as the foundation for multiple outfits, easily mixed

and matched; typically, neutral-colored solids.

These days, however, prints and brighter solids are acceptable as basics too, it’s just

their use as a foundation that makes them such. I advise my clients to build their

wardrobe using 3 colors that are interchangeable as staples and they don’t have to be

neutral.

The fabrics and textures this fall include leather as well as beautiful tweeds with a bit of

kick to them, making them fun while versatile and incorporating athleisure fabrics.

Personally, I’m a big fan of Veronica Beard and Alice & Olivia because they always have

a little extra pop to them. Keep an eye out for small details and finishings that subtly

take the garment to the next level.

One of my personal favorites for fall is the structured blazer. What I love about it is that

you can spin it up or down with minimal effort. The tweed blazer with a strong, fitted

silhouette is my new “go-to” this season. One nicely fitted blazer can make an entire

outfit whether you’re rushed for time in the morning or headed out for date night.

With the increase of work in the office, clothes that are easily dressed up or down are

critical to stress-free and stylish dressing and this fall’s clothes do just that. In this new

era, clothes aren’t assigned to a single function but are intended to be multipurpose,

reflecting how we live.

Tammy’s Truism: Remember when shopping, spend as much as you can afford, while balancing the cost-per-wear, particularly if you expect the garment to do double duty as a basic in your wardrobe.
