Mastering Elegant Makeup

As you transition seasons, so should your makeup. Even if you’re a religious user of sunscreen, our complexions naturally get a bit darker in the warmer months from being outside. Ideally, you should have two foundations—one for colder months and one for warmer. So too, your makeup should reflect your “bronzed” self or self-tanners. Here, your entire color palette changes too. Move away from darker colors to lighter ones—tinted lip balms and moisturizers are great options.

If you wear dramatic, full-face makeup; gravitate toward a natural look through foundation and nude colors; or are a minimalist, there is one mainstay: elegant makeup only takes a bit of effort. There are two keys to an elegant look: moisturized skin and the right tools. Achieving a flawless look requires you to spend time blending what you apply, be it foundation or eyeshadow and it doesn’t take a lot of time.

Invest in foundation and eyeshadow brushes along with blending sponges; they make all the difference. After applying your foundation, use a brush to redistribute any uneven makeup before it settles, wiping your brush on a tissue. Once you’ve completed this, use a makeup sponge to address the edges of where you’ve applied your foundation and remove any remaining excess.

Though brushes can get pricey, you can find some inexpensive ones online or wait for a sale. Once you’ve found your lighter shades for the warmer weather, and have the right tools, you’ll easily transition the seasons with an effortless, enviable look.

Tammy’s Truism: The right tools are key to an effortless look. Remember to mark the purchase date on your makeup to remind you when to throw it out.
