Everyone Can Dress Up Jeans
As a basic, you can do anything with jeans given their endless versatility. In my previous life as an executive, I sparingly wore jeans, yet I still had several pairs, hemmed in different lengths for heels or flats, to wear with sweaters or blazers.
For either sex, to dress up jeans, the darker the wash the better—it gives them a bit more polish. The type of fit is also a factor dressing up any jean with the straight leg providing a failsafe, dressier silhouette for both men and women. A waxed or “leathered” finish also adds a nice sheen.
Men can choose from a wide range of jean colors, but blue or black remains most popular. Adding in a dark sneaker or even a matte loafer instantly dresses up what may otherwise be just a jean. If the belt matches the shoes, it elevates the look further, as does the shirt if it’s collared.
Women have a broader variety of fit and colors, and their accessories too can step up jeans. Pair them with a rhinestone or patent belt. Another way to achieve the same end is using a scarf as a belt that matches your top or purse. Don’t overlook the heel to boost the look. If it’s a slim fit or jegging, add a chunky necklace and some booties to a dressy tunic and it’s a date night outfit.
This 1873 American invention was designed as the ultimate outdoor workwear of dark blue denim and rivets that is now so popular it’s its own category. Almost every designer has an interpretation with manufacturers inventing new dyes and finishes so jeans remain interesting and are more environmentally friendly.
