Trends In Menswear

Just like women, it’s not the red carpet looks nor the runways which most of men sport

in their everyday lives. It’s more driven by occupation and the ease of dressing, which

is just as true for men. The post-Covid world has impacted menswear as it is heavily

dominated by comfort and functionality.

One example is men now have more comfortable footwear choices for the office. The

once common dress shoes and cuff links have been replaced by soft-soled shoes and

shirts made of performance knits previously reserved for workout gear. Two of the

murkiest questions that remain for men these days are:

-Do I still need to wear a tie and jacket?

-Are jeans appropriate office wear?

The new hybrid remote/in office work world still requires you dress appropriately. Men

should use the adage of “wear what the boss wears” as the first guideline. Then, focus

on finding shirts which mimic a dress shirt but are made of a performance knit instead of

cotton, so too for pants. When it comes to the requisite sport jacket, traditional fabrics

of wool and cotton remain the leader.

Another straightforward workwear guideline for men is dress like you’re headed out to

play golf. Golf attire is ideal because the collared shirt and pants are made of cotton

and synthetics. This allows the wearer comfort when bending to pick up a ball or

hoisting a suitcase in an overhead bin. Suffice it to say, this type of neat dress is

timeless and works for most situations.

Tammy’s Truism: Though most may not act like it, men are typically just as concerned

as women about how they present and are seen by their peers and colleagues.
