My Outfit Epiphany

Despite dressing others for a living, I too have days where I struggle to find what to

wear. During a recent content production day, I had an epiphany about my mindset

when getting ready for reels vs real life.

For content days, I typically pull 10-15 outfits and accompanying accessories. Here, I

focus on the best pieces to make up the outfit, depending on the look I’m creating. It

amazes me that this takes me no time at all, and I end up with outfit combinations that

previously hadn’t occurred to me. I began to wonder why daily life dressing is harder

than content days.

Then it hit me:  my philosophy is very different for content day vs the rest.

For content days, I pick the best pieces to make up an outfit as opposed to starting with

the fit or feel. That frees me from the negative thoughts about any specific garment,

yielding the best outfit.

I’m also surprised in that some outfits are more flattering than others, which I only

discover through my prep pics and content video. I’ve taken screenshots of these so

that I can catalog them when in a future outfit quandary.

My new philosophy is to dress by identifying the best garments for my outfit before

discounting any one piece. After that, I can evaluate my outfit based on fit or function,

determining any appropriate adjustment.

Shifting how I think about getting dressed has taken the emotion out of it leaving me

with new combinations, I would have never considered.

Tammy’s Truism: By taking the emotion out of it, getting dressed based on the “best outfit” is much faster and less emotionally fraught than how I’ve done it up to this point.
