New Year’s Closet Resolution

I’m not one to make resolutions, and most of us migrate away from these annual goals we so publicly declare within 65 days.  Give yourself a clean slate for 2023 by organizing your closets and drawers.  It’s something which lasts year-round and has an element of instant gratification.

Amazon, Target, Ikea, or the Container Store offer great options, and there are endless online organization hacks.  Organizers can be pricey, so set a budget and start with the most needed items.  Begin your project by measuring your space—regardless of size, there’s an organizer out there which fits.

Typically, I compile all the organizers and then figure out how I’m going to use them, returning the extras.  There are stackables, as well as organizers, which have movable dividers and you can even order custom ones online.  Look at kitchen organizers as they have the most compartment variety.  As for me, I like being able to see everything, so I prefer clear or glass-front containers.

When organizing, make sure the items you wear the most are the easiest to access.  For example, when in my mountain-top home, t-shirts are the most worn item.  So, I stack them in small baskets on end, keeping t-shirts on a well-lit shelf in clear view.  I hang my jeans above them, folded in quarters, so I can see their style and color while pulling my t-shirt and jeans all at once.

In the end, the more efficiently you use your closet and drawer space, the easier it is to get dressed.  Expect to refine your organization layout before finding what configuration works best over time.
