The Next Big Trend: Palm Royale
Dropping this week on AppleTV+ is a show that will set this season’s warm weather
style: Palm Royale. Why do you ask?
Set in 1969 in Palm Beach, Florida, the scenery is beautiful, but the fashion is the next
level—think Jackie O. The style’s foundation is bright colors and florals, but more
importantly, their shape is key.
During this era, clothes were distinguished by their tailoring which highlighted the
feminine shape of a woman using darts, and other refinements. Such tailoring with
clean lines makes these pieces timeless, excluding the caftan.
The show collaborated with the Real Real and Anthropologie whereby you can shop
curated pieces which reflect the show’s style. If you’re interested in striking out on your
own, find the best vintage thrift store in your area. You may find some gems that are
less expensive than new garments and therefore are less of an investment.
Beyond these two retailers, the style is in beautiful display at Nordstroms with shirtwaist
dresses (Eleventy), pleated skirts, and dresses with floral patterns, like the Oscar de la
Renta hollyhock floral dress. I had the chance to try on the hollyhock dress and it’s
shape instantly makes you feel beautiful—see it on my Insta post.
In addition to tailored garments, accessories like a pastel-colored raffia bag or the small
square wrist bags reflect the era, while adding benefits of more modern features like a
cell phone pocket. Big brightly colored earrings are also on trend.
In the end, you can choose to embrace the trend at a variety of price points. I plan to
find an investment piece or two with an eye toward this timeless style.
Tammy’s Truism: As is with any trend, make sure it reflects your personal style otherwise you won’t wear it.
