Skirt Length

Nicer weather lends itself to more skirts in your wardrobe rotation. Though there are

several trending types of skirt, like the layered tulle or the midi-denim, I’m a strong

believer that it depends on your body type as to what skirt suits you best.

I love the midi skirt, but at 5’2”, a midi makes me look like I’m playing dress up in my

mother’s clothes—I know my limits and must take a pass. A midi is great for anyone

who is statuesque and less curvy because a midi is striking on a tall and lean figure and

drapes nicely.

A-line skirts are also a no go for my height as they cut across my legs making them

appear shorter than I am already. Instead, a pencil skirt or a pleated one is most

flattering for my shorter, curvier figure. I also avoid any skirt that hits mid-calf because it

has the same effect. Being petite, I wear all my skirts right above the knee, regardless

of type.

Satin slip skirts are trending but beware as the fabric is unforgiving and shows

everything so, if you must have one, a darker printed fabric looks best. They have a

beautiful flutter hem and are a perfect day to night outfit.

Overall, if there’s a trend you’re loving but the cut doesn’t flatter your figure, then

replicate the trendy fabric or color but in a style that suits you better. For example, I

would do a denim pencil instead of midi-skirt or a fun tulle skirt which is a defined pencil

with flowing layers.

Tammy’s Truism: Just because something’s trendy, doesn’t mean you need to wear it. If you decide to purchase a trendy item, calculate the cost per wear, to determine how much you should spend on it.
