Packing for Summer Travel
We are in peak travel and tourist season and the skies are more crowded than ever!
With a few helpful hints, you can reduce your travel and packing stress.
If you are a regular business traveler, you’re likely outnumbered by vacationers. Why
should you care?? It means those who don’t have the screening process
mastered—with laced shoes, water bottles and cell phones still in their pockets—will
likely slow down the line.
To minimize the impact on you, travel with the smallest bag you can stand as it not only
makes security easier, but it also means you have less to manage when working around
unaccustomed travelers. Moreso, the smaller the bag, the more likely you’ll get bin
space.
When packing for vacation, most of us pack more not less because when you travel for
work, your wardrobe is limited. Vacation travel means activities: touristing, beaching,
and dinners out. You can see how quickly the amount of clothes increases.
One of my favorite tricks to using coverups made of bathing suit material as a dress or
top. If you’re beaching, typically the rules on dress are laxer but these often have
enough structure to them to wear as an outfit, though they may be a little shorter than
your norm.
I also love using consignments for vacation attire since you only wear it occasionally.
The Real Real is my go-to because they have so much inventory, you can shop by body
shape and color. This works particularly well if the trend of the season—like this year’s
boxy cuts and flowing fabrics—doesn’t suit your frame.
Of course, I abide by my two-color packing rule but when vacationing, you’ll want to add
a splash of color. Use accessories, like scarves, sandals, or statement jewelry, as they
take up less room.
In the end, your goal is to dress so you’re confident and look put together while still on
vacation.
Tammy’s Truism: Just because you’re on vacation and slept in late, you don’t need to look like you just go out of bed.
