Summer Shoes
Since we just hit the first bookend of summer and sun, Memorial Day weekend, there’s so much to look forward to. First and foremost, it’s the return of pedicures that can be seen by all and we look for those summer shoes—almost universally, open ones—which show those toes off.
This season, the high-end fashion brands have gone old school. They’re using the eons-old sandal in the form of a thong. Gucci has a retro-70s style, with a wide strap, dark brown leather slide with their universally recognized brass logo. While understated, the high contrasting logo against the leather certainly makes it pop. Prada also has its own version this year, creating the thong from pastel patent leather with a tone-on-tone Prada logo. The effect is a refined glamour to what otherwise would be just a thong.
In general, you have the standard elements for warm weather shoes, but for this season, wider straps and block heels are the most common. The benefit of a block heel is that it provides the wearer a bit more stability, so too for slides with wider straps. On slides, one of the more prevalent styles this season is the “puffy” braided leather across the ball of the foot.
Regardless of your style, there are lots of choices out there, but you’re likely to find the most choices online, as stores are still struggling due to a lack of inventory. When shopping recently in Neiman Marcus, sneakers were about the only choice available for casual shoes.
Therefore, when you find your shoe for this season, definitely snap it up before it disappears. Order now if you’re planning summer vacation in August to overcome the longer shipping time—there’s no need to add stress to what should otherwise be something you look forward to.
