Travel Style Part I: How Not to Look Like You’re Traveling
This time of year, we think about getting away—to warmer climes or a weekend jaunt. Even if it’s for business, I’ve got tips on how look great while traveling. Overall, you never want to look like you’re traveling and want to fit into your vacay or business destination.
Begin by picking two colors in your wardrobe that go together. You can go for high contrasting colors, like black and white, the more traditional khaki and navy, or even complementary colors.
When choosing your garments, you need two bottoms and two tops, one in each color. I’d recommend one skirt and one pant, then choose a short-sleeved and a long-sleeved top. Now, pick a jacket and/or sweater in one of the above colors, and a tank in each. This is the foundation for your travel suitcase—which now contains a secret. What’s the secret?
The secret is that looking elegant and put together while traveling can be achieved by dressing monochromatically. A single-color outfit always looks more expensive and dramatic.
By selecting two colors, using the above garments, you can dress monochromatically, but also mix them. If you find you don’t have the right mix of garments, put them on a list for your next shopping trip.
Finally, have a day of travel outfit. This gets you from home to your destination, roundtrip. It can withstand lifting bags into the overhead bin, as well as running down the terminal or for a taxi.
