Closet Organization

Once you’ve finished your spring closet clean, the next step is organizing. Before beginning, think about how you utilize your closet, keeping in mind what you use often and what takes up the most space.

Good lighting in your closet is key and there are endless affordable options from Amazon and Wayfair, not to mention any hardware store. If your closet doesn’t have electricity, consider the newer, battery-operated lights that are extraordinarily bright.

For your frequently used items, keep them easy to see and access. There are lots of organizing solutions but don’t use a bin with a lid on something you reach for daily.

One of my new favorites in closet organization is the flocked hanger because it keeps the shoulder of your clothes on the hanger. Over time, I have replaced all my hangers with this. The benefit of using a single hanger type is it enables you to see all your garments uniformly on the rod.

Traditionally, I organized my clothing by color and type. However, in reorganizing my closet, I tried something new: keep solid tops and shirts together, hanging my prints separately. This was an”aha” moment for me as I quickly realized that I had too many prints and I was lacking solid colored basics.

As a result of this new layout, I have since begun buying solids that match my prints and it has made for a stronger wardrobe and provided me greater options when dressing.

Just by rearranging my clothes, I saw my wardrobe in a different light, and it changed how I shop.

Tammy’s Truism: Try not to pack too many clothes onto the rack because when

they’re so compressed, it can result in deep wrinkles you can’t remove.
