Transition Garments: From Work To Play
There’s a lot to be said for simplifying your wardrobe—it saves time and money while
reducing stress. Garments that transition from work to play are a critical tool to
effortlessly shifting from home-to-work and everything in between. There are several
types of garments which I think are particularly well-suited to the task.
One of my leading staples is a sequined tank or t-shirt. I have a few different versions,
some with matte sequins and others more traditional. It transitions beautifully to night
and during the day it can peek out from under a button-down. I recommend having at
least two colors—one light and one dark. They come in a variety of price points.
Another garment that easily transitions from work to play, is a blouse that has some
notable detailing, like pleating along the shoulder or draping across the front, and its
material has some give to it. Once you’re finished with your workday, you can roll up
the sleeves, untuck it, making it look more casual while out meeting friends or running
errands. The more give the fabric has, the less likely it will wrinkle.
Lastly, one of the world’s most versatile garments are jeans. I recommend choosing
either white or black as the starkness elevates any look. Jeans are easily dressed up
with a blazer and accessories during the day, and by changing shoes and losing the
blazer, you can catch a ball game or hit the park after work while blending in
seamlessly.
Overall, when considering garments that can be incorporated into two distinct
environments, be mindful that details, color, and fit improve their versatility.

your wardrobe.
